The new Philadelphia Foil Lid is a true eye-catcher!

Constantia Flexibles won an Alufoil Trophy 2010 in the category of “Technical Innovation“. The product, a partly embossed oval foil lid for Philadelphia-Frischkäse (Philadelphia Cream Cheese), gets its seals from Kraft Foods. The jury was particularly impressed by the embossing technique, which was developed to create exciting new lids.

Oval Philly LidThis brand-strengthening development was part of the marketing decision of Kraft Foods to use in future oval packaging instead of the rectangular ones that have been used so far. The effective peel off lid is based on a punching process, which guarantees a precisely fitted positioning of the embossing design amidst the so-called guided pressure. The register mark required for this pressure is applied by means of a cost-saving innovation in process technology.

The peel off lid consisting of a soft, hot-sealable 38µ aluminum foil has an unembossed, smooth edge for optimal seal and tearing open qualities. Jury chairman Terry Robins, packaging consultant for industry and trade and formerly a manager for packaging technology and development at Sainsbury, explained: “While embossing of alufoil is not new, the quality of partial-embossing on this pack is so good that the Philadelphia brand is greatly enhanced by the technology“. Christoph Witzke, Constantia Flexibles’ Key-Account-Manager for Kraft Foods, commented: “By winning the Alufoil Trophy 2010, the permanent development work done by Constantia Flexibles is equally recognised as the product innovation, by which we create a real added value for our customers.“
